It seems we all have an edge.  You know, that edge that others mention in sayings like, “You seem to be on edge today” or “Here, drink this, it will take the edge off”?  Other times we think we need an edge, or want to be identified as being “on the cutting edge”.  I guess the real question we all must answer is, “How well are we managing our edge”?

Your edge is the thing others associate with you, either good, or not so good.  Often, it is our edge that scares us most.  You see, there is a thin line between “having an edge “ and “going over the edge” or “being at the cutting edge” and “edging someone else out”.

What did God intend regarding our “edge”?  Perhaps our edge is actually our spiritual gift, a gift that when given to God, glorifies God.  Or when held too closely, it can be the very thing that destroys our relationships, or even our very life.

Some people try to keep a lid on their edge, hoping their “Mr. Hyde” will not get out.  Most sedate their edge with drugs, alcohol, food, fun or illegitimate lovin’.

Christ seemed a bit edgy in Mathew 10:34,35  when He said, “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.  "For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW”.  Christ was like a spiritual plowshare leaving all kinds of instability in the soil of our heart.  He prepares us as a field being readied to receive the seed of His grace.

Without a doubt, we must allow God to manage our “edge”; otherwise, we risk a life of regret, or total destruction.

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair. --C. S. Lewis
