Created in His Image!

"So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."(Genesis 1:27)

What does it mean to be created in the image of God?
Rick

Also, How do I get the "Bold, Italicized & Underline" to work?
Steve

Rick--
Uncheck the box below the message "Disable HTML Text" and then it should work.

When you click the bold, underline, or italics buttons it creates the message in HTML format, and you have to make sure you enable HTML text and you can now bold, underline, or italicize anything you want going forward. Steve

Foremost, I believe we were created as vessels for God's love.  We were created to reflect God's love: Mark 12:30 "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment" and the second 12:31 "Thou shalt love thy neighbor". In other words, we were imaged from and for God's love.

The Holy Trinity is three yet one.  We are three yet one (body, soul and spirit). There is a harmonious relationship that exists within the Holy Trinity, but our individual, internal relationship is often filled with discord.

Our life's motion is born from an internal relationship between motive and motivation. God's eternal work is born from the eternal relationship between the Father and the Holy Spirit.

If this is true, then how are we connected to God?
Rick

Overshadowing

Overshadowing appears to be a way the Holy Spirit imparts divine will upon mankind.

I wonder, did we cast a shadow before Adam and Eve fell from their relationship with God?  A shadow is cast because an external light source cannot penetrate through.  When the Holy Spirit overshadows us does that mean Godís light radiates through our spiritual life?  Perhaps we were designed to glow from God's eternal light.  Perhaps one day this will not only be a spiritual reality but a physical reality as well.

To overshadow may mean to bring light unto darkness.

That's an interesting thought, Rick.
I think that the Holy Spirit overshadows us when we try to step out on our own and think of ourselves before God.  I believe that God, through the Holy Spirit, reminds us of His greatness by helping us forget our own greatness (which is usually in our minds).

The Holy Spirit that lives within us reminds us frequently that God's will be done the closer we are to God (the more we pray, etc.).  When God is far from our mind, the Spirit brings us back.  The choice is ours keep God in our hearts and minds, so that the Holy Spirit can overshadow self.

"We are three yet one (body, soul and spirit)."

Rick,

How do you categorize the difference(s) between the soul and the spirit?
Rick

Josh,

It is great hearing from you, we have been pleased by the words of others how you have matured in Christ.

Your question is a tough one because many well-respected theologians see the soul and the spirit as synonymous.

My primary Biblical reference would be Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

and others:

1st Thessalonians 5:23 "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

In modern terms, I notice a difference between motive and motivation.  My soul harbors intent, motive the human will.  My spirit motivates action.

Many have good intentions, but are never moved to action.  Equally, many have been properly motivated, however ill-motives ultimately spoil the final motion (motive + motivation = motion) (male + female = fruit).

Within all of us, I believe, is a marriage between the soul and the spirit.  When the marriage is in unison much fruit is born.  Fruit of the world or fruit of the Eternal variety.  In this world, we see both.

Obviously, much of what I am writing on here is illusive.  While I believe it to be generally true, this is not a foundational element.  Perhaps, it could be called Spiritual Physiology.  For me, it is a work in process which God will prove (or disprove) through His word and/or fellowship with others.  All this to say, I welcome spiritual insights from others.
