I was listening to Animal Collective on the way home from work tonight after a long day of the banking grind.  It was a fairly simple song called "My Girls" but left me asking questions:

1) How does God work in the abilities of musicians to allow them to create greatness that can take a listener from stress and chaos to peace and calmness?

On the way home, I had already prayed and thanked God for providing me the strength to make it through another day without seeking additional concessions of greatness or recognition for my efforts.

Then this song came on - simple lyrics, but great melody.  I lost any and all frustration and anger that I held onto from the day and found my way into a relaxing state, eyes focused on the road, mind somewhere else.

The lyrics are the following:

"There isn't much that I feel I need
A solid soul and the blood I bleed
But with a little girl, and by my spouse,
I only want a proper house

I don't care for fancy things
Or to take part in the freshest wave,
But to provide for mine who ask
I will, with heart, on my father's grave

On my father's grave
(On your father's grave)

I don't mean to seem like I
Care about material things,
Like a social status,
I just want
Four walls and adobe slats
For my girls"

You touch me Steve.
Your aspiration to fulfill wonder while rooted in humility is good.  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comment, Russ.  Looking forward to seeing everyone for deer season coming up, and finally get to bring my wife Katy and introduce her to some great people she's never met.

With stuff like I mentioned above, occasionally I get lost in the details of the music because I realize that someone or some group produced this music out of nothing but past musical influence and creativity.

One day this song didn't exist, one day it did.  The end product is great, but I would have liked to have watched and listened to the progression from the first pen on paper for the lyrics or the first note of the melody to the final version.

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair. --C. S. Lewis
