First slavery, and now marriage, has been morphed into an institutional antitype of what was once accepted as Divine Order.  In today’s world, it is dangerous to speak plainly to what God intended with these two institutions.

Ownership?  Does any human have the right to own another human being?  Certainly, not if there is ill intent.  Is an employer a master to his employee?  Doesn’t an employer own the productivity of an employee for a marked time?  Most people today are not enterprising enough on their own to survive; they need the enterprising skills of another.  So what is the difference between slavery and employment?  If receiving payment for employment makes it better, then what is the difference between a wife and a prostitute?  Will a prostitute one day be more socially legitimate than a wife?  You may say love makes all the difference, and I would agree in both cases.  The Bible speaks of the “Good Master” and the “good servant”.  The Bible also speaks of the bride and the groom.

Most relationships of any value thrive because there is a shared ownership.  The important thing is not standing up for what you believe you are entitled to, but rather sharing with another something that is yours to share.

Aw, but “ownership” …there is the real rub.  No individual should own another!  Is it any wonder today that the Church struggles understanding their relationship with God?  Does God own us? Let’s see… if He is our Creator then does He own us?  Didn’t He also purchase our lives with the most precious thing of all, His blood?  Yet, He is willing to share ownership of His Kingdom with us!

Today, we prefer to think of God as our life-partner, our Bud that has our back.  God invites us to share a relationship with Him, but it is not on our terms, nor will it ever be a peer relationship.  We are ingrained with such a strong sense of equality and personal freedom that we believe both are critical ingredients in every relationship.  How can we be equal to God? When we expect this in our relationship with God, haven’t we become like Lucifer, who wanted to be “like the Most High”?

The question is not who owns what; the question is who is willing to share what they own.  God is!

Rick -

When I pray, I feel like I'm praying to a Father (Father figure) or Lord (King; Highest power; End all be all).  When I give thanks in prayer, I feel like it's to a Lord.  When I think of Jesus' sacrifice and death for me I view it like one man dying in the place of another - like a war movie where one soldier takes a bullet for another, or where one man is sacrificed and the result is his family is saved.

Though they are the Holy Trinity I view God, when I pray, as a Father.  When I screw up and ask for forgiveness, a Father.  When success finds me and I give thanks, a Lord.  When I find something in the world is beautiful because God created it, I give thanks to God, our Lord.

That's just what goes on behind the scenes in my mind when I pray and what I feel when I pray - when I think about who is listening, it's the Father.  When I am seeking guidance, wisdom, selflessness, I pray to a Father.  Other times, I feel like I'm thanking the highest available power, our Lord.

Depending upon what I pray about, I will usually address either Father or Lord "Father, please help me to understand your plan..." or other times when I'm giving thanks, it can be "Lord, thank you for your many blessings which I do not deserve..."

I don't know what's right or wrong, but that at least is how I do it sometimes.

I'm moving your question to "Prayer".  It is way to important to hide behind Iconic Anti-types.
